Modern Hieroglyphs........ May 2012
From the earliest days of humanity to the present, visual imagery has been utilized by man for many purposes. Isotype is all around us in many forms and is constantly evolving. Some forms are embraced while others are simply discarded as clutter, be it in digital or hard copy form. The landscape of the Modern Hieroglyph is something that we all use at some point in our lives whether it be an image someone else has devised or an item that is of our own design, thus allowing for some icons to appear to take on a life cycle of their own. Visual and audio art has in the past and continues to play a large role in what gets adapted or discarded. During my travels throughout the years I've captured a few of these visual components and have created many in music, visuals and soundscape audio via music studio / field recording, film, video and other recording paraphernalia. The release of Modern Hieroglyphs as a work is in part observation, interaction and celebration of this seemingly ageless phenomenon.
While initially working on this project friends and colleagues began sending images that they came upon during the course of their everyday lives around the globe. In keeping with the spirit of interactivity, I'm extending the invitation for emailing, preferably links or **compressed** files 200k max images of your choice. I'll make sure I carve out some time to post a few of them here.
